God Never Fails

E.B. White once wrote, “Always be on the lookout for the presence of wonder.” I’ve found it’s true that when I’m on the lookout for wonder I run across it even in unlikely places.

I once found a wondrous sentence hidden in a fortune cookie. I taped it to the top of my easel and it’s been there for over ten years. It says, “In great attempts it is glorious even to fail.”

I love that sentence, but truly it’s still much easier to steer clear of anything that could possibly lead to failure—anything that could leave me feeling embarrassed or deficient. It’s easier to stay quiet, stay hidden, and stay comfortable.

But here’s a thought that stirs courage every time: God never fails. His presence is the only place of unfailing love and security—the only home that cannot be taken away. When I remember this, I find I can afford to fail. I can afford to be misunderstood or embarrassed or found deficient. And without the fear of failure weighing so heavily, I can breathe easier and take steps of faith. When my faith is in God’s faithfulness I begin to be set free from the fear of failure. Not because my plans will necessarily succeed but because I know that His will. I can leap knowing that He’s enough to sustain me whether I succeed or not. And I can leap knowing that His ever-victorious plans are so grand that even my most glorious failures can’t make a dent in them. What a relief!

Maybe that’s what God means when He says, “The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD shall be safe.” ~Proverbs 29:25

Blessings to you as you rest in His victory and faithfulness,

~Amy
