Brighter and Brighter
Last Thursday my mom and I drove up to the mountains of North Carolina. I had some heavy things on my heart and I told my mom about them and she reminded me that God’s grace will always be enough for whatever comes along. I knew she was speaking the truth.
At home, the leaves were just beginning to blush from green to gold. But as we neared the mountains, the colors intensified. Brilliant yellows and ruby reds against candy green fields dotted with black cows. White farm houses that looked so warm and cozy, they made me think of freshly baked bread. And then we began winding up through the mountains—the curviest road you can imagine and with every curve the colors were more glorious.
Somehow, my mom’s true and comforting words—God’s grace will always be enough—and the colors getting brighter by the minute, were saying the same thing. A message so clear and true that it shrinks all other messages to infinitesimal smallness.
What about heartache? Illness? Evil in the world? Sin and all its consequences? All are real. Suffering is not an illusion. But God’s grace? It is brighter and brighter the further you go, beyond all imagining. Like mountain colors that could stop my heart and give me a new heart—steal my breath and give me new breath. He is enough. More than enough!
Magnificent. Glorious! And He holds us.
