Sharing Light
I believe that every good gift comes from God. My favorite description of Him is “The Father of Lights”. I have a habit of looking for those gifts, those flecks of light, and I find so many of them in stories. Often, when I’ve felt the darkness drawing near, a good story has revived me, confronted me with my own flaws, and stirred my courage. I believe stories are uniquely suited to deliver truth, hope and light to people’s hearts and minds. The words I write and the illustrations I create flow from this belief. I want to send as many flecks of light into the darkness as I can—to encourage people, to help them hold fast to hope and remind them that they are not alone.
Scripture Cards
Recently my husband (who’s a wonderful graphic designer!) and I have been hard at work creating Scripture Cards—carefully pairing my artwork with certain scriptures that I love to dwell on. I hope and believe that connecting wonder-filled images with verses will help people hold onto scripture and go deeper into the wonder of it.
Often when I’m painting an illustration, I have a verse or verses in mind and the act of painting becomes a kind of dwelling. I want to share that in a way that’s personal and practical. So we’ve made a set of 20 Scripture Cards that will fit easily into a purse or backpack. Something I hope people will share with others when they sense a friend could use some encouragement or a stirring of hope.
A Story of Belonging
I had the great joy of working on illustrations for Ann Voskamp’s beautiful storybook, Your Brave Song. It’s a hope-filled story of courage and belonging and I’m so excited to know that it’s been released out into the world! I found myself singing the song that shows up throughout the book as I painted the illustrations in my studio~“Jesus loves you, makes you strong, in Him you’re brave and you belong.” Click here to read Ann’s blog about the book!
